Officials were unclear Tuesday of the villages status in the program which provides federally-backed flood insurance for homeowners, businesses and renters in communities that restrict development in high-risk flood areas.

Currently, more than 5. 4 million flood insurance policies are in approximately 20,300 participating communities nationwide through the program, according to the National Flood Insurance Programs Web site.

Village of Lake Delton officials are reviewing records relating to the villages apparent non-participation in the National Flood Insurance Program after flood waters washed away three Lake Delton homes and destroyed two more Monday.
