Users will send a message with their identification number, mobile phone number and name of the beneficiary to 8808, said Kenya Orient Insurance Limited general manager, Virginia Magondu, during the launch on Friday.

Britons are planning to cutback on insurance cover as they reduce their outgoings in the face of the credit crunch, a new study has shown.

Chris Rolland, head of American Express Insurance Services, commented: "Life may be getting more expensive, but it is worrying that 48 per cent of Brits are planning to cut back on the policies that are designed to protect them during hard times.

Of these 30 per cent are planning to discontinue their payment protection insurance, while 27 per cent are considering dispending with their health insurance plan.

The amount of funding required to cover insurance premiums has risen more than usd. 4000 since the grants were given out last year, and a council report says it is hard to see how the marae could pay their insurance premiums without the grants.
